2010 Information

As we pick up momentum for our season openers, we would like to remind the parents to continue to work on paying your fee balances. We are making every effort to keep the fees to a minimum but, we need your help. If you have an outstanding balance, please see Coach Roz Tillman or, Director Craig Thompson at the this week's practice to make arrangements.

Finally, if you have not done so already, please submit any raffle ticket sales towards your child's balance by Wednesday, February 17, 2010. You may also pick up your Spaghetti Dinner tickets at any practice up to that date.

Thank you,

Evanston Small Fry Basketball

About Us

We are Evanston Small Fry Basketball and we are a part of the Small Fry Basketball Association of America, http://www.smallfrybasketball.com/, an international basketball league designed for play by youth no taller than 5 ft. 1 inches and between the ages of 9-13.

We are a not-for-profit organization that has been in existence since 2002. We compete in the annual Small Fry tournament at the Walt Disney Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida. Our primary purpose is to provide mentoring, fair play and teamwork. Our players are involved in a competitive athletic challenge geared to strengthen their game. We use sports as the outlet to reach these children.
We are currently entering into our 8th season as an officially recognized Small Fry of America organization. Our players are primarily from the north shore of Chicago with the majority of our players coming from the Evanston/Skokie area.

What We Do

Our season lasts eight weeks beginning in late February and ending in early April in which we spend time traveling and participating in a regional round robin basketball tournament that ends with the annual international Small Fry basketball tournament in Orlando, FL.

Small Fry basketball was created in 1968 in Chicago Heights, IL. as a result of a group of individuals seeing the need for competitive play for children who measured no taller than 5ft 1inch tall. Basketball has always been a game of height and Small Fry gives the smaller players a chance to learn the rules of the game, develop and apply a technical knowledge of the game and compete at a high level with a group of their peers.

The players must not be older than 13 years old prior to September 1st of any given year; they compete at baskets that are 8ft 6inches tall. Varsity players may play at the maximum height of 5’1” and JV players may not be older than 11 years old and they may not be taller than 4’11”.

Our players are able to meet and interact with players of diverse cultural, ethnical and region specific backgrounds.
Players are asked to commit 4+ hours per week for practice and 2+ hours per week of study table. During the actual season, they must maintain a passing grade in their core curriculum classes and they must not have any outstanding conduct or behavioral issues at practice, games, school and most importantly, at home.

Our Promise to you!

Our mission is to provide an opportunity for our area youth to participate in a meaningful program that provides mentoring, counseling and academic support while improving their basketball skills.

The goal for this program is to show our student/athletes that they matter and that they too can be successful members of our society.
